Affiliate Individual & Organisation
For anyone interested in the profession but not working as a fire engineer, it is possible to join IFE as an Affiliate.
Affiliate Membership is also available to organisations.

Student
Applicants for Student grade will be engaged as a part time or full time student of fire engineering (which may include vocational work place based training), or are in part time or full time employment in fire engineering.
Please print the application form, complete and send it to IFE (HK) Branch.
Remarks to Student grade: Please submit your application along with:
- Student Membership Application Form;
- Your study proof (e.g. Programme Commencement Notification, Receipt Confirmation, Notice of Fee Payment or Offer Letter issued by the University. Please note that Student ID is NOT accepted)
- Subscription by cheque (payment by credit/debit card or cash is NOT accepted)

New Student Ruling
Students following a recognized programme of study, including qualifications, may be Student Members of IFE for up to 5 years, at which point they will be required to apply to upgrade their membership or transfer to Affiliate status.
Technician (TIFireE)
Applicants for Technician grade of membership will:
- Pass the IFE Level 3 Certificate (formerly Intermediate) Exam or
- Be a registered Engineering Technician with the Engineering Council UK or an international equivalent or
- Hold an equivalent qualification as approved for this purpose.
Applicants will also meet the other requirements:
- At least 12 months covering 25 hours of sufficient and relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Applicants are required to submit a CPD log with their application
- Indicative length of experience required: 2 years

Graduate (GIFireE)
Applicants for Graduate grade of membership will:
- Pass the IFE Level 3 Diploma (formerly Graduate) examination, or
- Have successfully completed a course (or courses which has/have been accredited by IFE as being equivalent to the Graduateship examination, or
- Hold a Higher National Certificate or Diploma, or equivalent in relevant subjects click here for more information, or
- Has qualified by examination for membership at an appropriate level of a professional body approved for this purpose by IFE.
Applicants will also meet the other requirements:
- At least 12 months covering 25 hours of sufficient and relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Applicants are required to submit a CPD log with their application
- Indicative length of experience required: 2 years

Associate (AIFireE)
Applicants for Associate grade of membership will:
- At least 12 months covering 25 hours of sufficient and relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Applicants are required to submit a CPD log with their application
- Indicative length of experience required: 2 years
Additional information
- Chartered Engineer interim registration or Incorporated Engineer interim registration through the IFE automatically confers Associate (AIFireE) membership

Member (MIFireE)
Applicants for the Member grade of membership will:
- Pass the IFE Level 4 Certificate (formerly member) examination, or
- Have successfully completed a course (or courses) which has/have been accredited by the Institution as having equivalence with the Membership examination, or
- Hold a degree or equivalent in relevant subjects from a recognised university or equivalent academic institution, or
- Have qualified by examination for membership at an appropriate level of a professional body approved for this purpose by IFE.
Applicants will also meet the other requirements:
Applicants will also have met the relevant initial professional development (IPD) criteria in the following areas:
- At least 2 years of sufficient and relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Applicants are required to submit a CPD Log with their application.
- Applicants must submit a professional review report showing how they have met the Initial Professional Development (IPD) requirements for Member grade.
- Indicative length of experience required: 5 years
All applications for Member grade must be supported by two corporate members (AIFireE, MIFireE, FIFireE) of the Institution.

Fellow (FIFireE)
Fellow grade is only available to existing Members (MIFireE) of the Institution. Successful applicants will have demonstrated significant individual responsibility, sustained achievement and exceptional professionalism during his/her career.
An applicant must demonstrate successful leadership or outstanding service/contribution to the fire engineering professional over an extended period, not normally less than 15 years. Applications must also shown contribution to the Institution and be supported by two Fellow members of the Institution.
